Chapel Stile, The Langdale Valley

Beer, Bikes, Banter!

site designed and developed by The Langdale Estate

Chapel Stile

The Langdale Valley

The rides are social affairs aimed at having fun and some crack with other bikers (then some beers). All riders join rides at their own risk just like any other ride they may do on with mates. The guides are there purely to show you the route and are not responsible for your safety or your bike.

The Langdale Beer and Bikes Festival is a celebration of beer and bikes, the finest pastimes the Lake District has to offer. Blessed with awesome trails, routes, hills and scenery and of course some locally brewed ales the event brings together riders and drinkers for an amazing day out.

Located in Chapel Stile, in the Langdale Valley, fun social rides in the heart of the Lake District. Rides for everyone from families to hard core weekend warriors make this an event not to be missed. Ride with friends and make new ones on the ride and over a beer or two (or three or four!)

There will be a choice of road and mountain bike ride to suit all abilities and inclinations or do your own thing and come and enjoy a pint with the other riders afterwards everyone is welcome (even non bikers)

The rides are led by volunteers and are free, the pre ride refreshments are courtesy of Langdale Primary School in return for a donation. The beer comes from Bowness Bay Brewing and won’t break the bank no matter how hard you get stuck in.

It's All Free

(even your first pint!)

What's it all about?

Biketreks has been based in Ambleside for 25 years this year and over that time has become synonymous with Lake District cycling.  Staffed and run by cyclists, for cyclists.  Everyone who works for Biketreks lives, breathes and sleeps cycling.  If they’re not out riding a bike on their day off they can usually be found watching some kind of bike racing on TV.  With decades of experience in the bike industry across the staff, what more could you want?

We stock a range of bikes from Specialized, Santa Cruz, Orange and Scott plus all the accessories and extras you could ever need.  We love nothing more than spending our days chatting to people about bikes and giving advice about the best products to fit the needs of each person.  Since we are all riders ourselves, we have a fantastic wealth of knowledge about local rides and routes that can be started from our front door.  At any time we are happy to give route advice for both mountain or road bike rides for any distance you feel up to.  We have pre-printed maps of some of the more popular routes available or if you fancy something a little more adventurous or out of the way then we can mark a route on your own map.

As well as running demo days for Santa Cruz and Orange mountain bikes, we also have a few demo bikes from Specialized and Orange which can be taken out at any time.  What better way to decide on you next bike than by riding one you may have dreamt about.  The demo bikes we have in store are available to take any day of the week, all you need to do is give us a shout and book them in.

Our aim is to get people out riding on bikes, whatever bike that may be.  We are open 7 days a week and always happy to chat about your specific cycling needs and can customise any order to fit.  While you are here in the Lakes why not pop by our shop and take a look at what’s in store and have a chat about anything and everything bike related.  Everything is available on our website from bikes to route guides so if you can’t make it in store then check us out online.

We shall be at the Langdale Beer and Bikes Festival offering guided rides and shiny demos.  We shall be sending along one of our Biketreks Sponsored Enduro riders, Ben Clarke, to guide people round MTB ride 1.  Ben is a regular on race podiums so best bring your A-game! Biketreks regular and Skyride leader Doug Huntington will be leading Road Ride 2.  Since Doug is an expert in all the best coffee and cake stops around the lakes this is sure to be a fantastic ride.  Be sure to pop by and say hello.

FAMILY Ride

Distance - 6.5km Approx

This is a great, easy going ride for the youngsters and their mums and dads. There's a short stretch on the road to get to Elterwater village where we take a lovely bridleway which follows the crystal clear waters of Langdale Beck. We'll pause by the shore of Elterwater itself, notable for it's resident swans and the views of the Langdale Pikes. Then we head downstream to Skelwith Force (waterfall) and Skelwith Bridge. Here there is Chester's cafe to whet your whistle, a slate craft shop and paddling in the river. After everyone is rested we'll head back, retracing the outward route but this time you'll see the high fells towering in front of you. Save some energy for the last bit as we take the bridleway towards Elterwater quarry and drop down behind the Wainwrights Inn for a well-deserved bacon butty! Led by Richard, Mel and Liz
